Mairead Coughlan

Mairéad is a PE, Science and Biology teacher from Cork. She has a Bsc. degree in Physical Education and Biology from DCU and is currently studying to gain her Professional Diploma in Mathematics Teaching from the University of Limerick. A big believer in continuous education, Mairéad has first aid and AED training. She also regularly attends professional training sessions to broaden her range of lessons and activities for students – most recently, an Afro-Brazilian Dance and Capoeira workshop! She has also marked exams for the State Examinations Commision (SEC) and Dublin Examining Board (DEB) across a range of subjects.
Technologically enhanced learning is a passion of Mairéad’s and she more than knows her way around everything Microsoft and Google. Incorporating online maths and science platforms and toolkits into her lessons means she can provide accessible and engaging resources for students to spark their interest in these areas.
Mairéad is also an advocate for physical activity, having established and coached a number of school hurling and rugby teams. She’s played both of these sports at club-level since she was in school herself, although her free time is now mainly spent on cycling, tag rugby and paddleboarding.
