Karina Malone

My name is Karina Malone but I also go by the title of ‘Páidí and Meadhbh’s Mam’. Both my children attend Belmayne ETSS, Páidí is in 2nd year and Meadhbh started this September in 1st year. My children attended Belmayne ETNS and as a family we strongly believe in the Educate Together ethos.

I helped campaign for the patronage of our new secondary school by going door-to-door, and with the patronage secured I never imagined the school would be open in time for either of my children to attend! Thankfully, I now find myself in the position where my two children can continue their education in an Educate Together school.

I would like to be considered for the role of Parent Rep on the Board of Management, and I feel that through my work and life experiences I can bring many qualities, and a good work ethic that is needed for the Board of a developing school. I have previously worked in a busy retail shop through my school and college years. This was followed by 12 years as a self-employed painter and decorator, specialising in decorative finishes. A job which allowed me to travel throughout the country working in cathedrals, hotels, pubs and private homes.  After the premature birth of my eldest child, Páidí I spent a few years at home with my children before returning to work temporarily in childcare. A career I quickly grew to love and enjoy. With the introduction of new qualifications required for childcare workers by the government I studied at night while working part time in childcare. Nearly ten years later I am still working in the same creche! I challenge myself to evolve and progress in the field of childcare and have recently started working with the pre school age group as an AIM worker. I am working with children who have additional needs so that they are included in the preschool classroom.

I feel through my varied career the skills I can bring to the BOM will be good communication, the ability to multi-task, a strong work ethic and understanding the importance of confidentiality.
